They were never meant for the mortal world. These graceful phantoms ran beside sleeping souls, clearing nightmares from peaceful minds—or becoming the nightmare itself for those who earned the displeasure of the chthonic gods. Even now, they have not disappeared. They merely learned how to wear flesh.

Deep beneath the earth rests the hidden garden of Hypnos. Within endless fields of pale and crimson poppies, the fog of Lethe gathered around whispers and became living creatures. Elegant. Silent. Watching. These became the Somnu Hounds. Unlike Cerberus, who guards the gates of the Underworld, the Somnu Hounds guard the gates of sleep itself. Every night they run invisible paths through the subconscious, chasing away horrors that should never reach the dreamer. Yet not every soul deserves peaceful sleep. To oathbreakers and those who offend the old gods, they arrive as pale figures standing just beyond sight—the beautiful terror lingering in sleep paralysis. Their footsteps are never heard. Only remembered.
